OBA PUBLIC LIBRARY
With its 180 nationalities, Amsterdam is scoring high marks on diversity. It is now a reflection of its past.
180 Amsterdam locals (so-called ‘Amsterdammers’) of 180 different nationalities were photographed and filmed. This exhibition focuses on their life stories. Amsterdammers from different countries tell us about life in the city, and at the same time revisit memories from their country of birth. The exhibition also high-lights Amsterdammers from the past, who, each in their own way, have left their marks.
WE DIRECTLY HAD A CONNECTION WITH BUROBRAAK. WHILE DISCUSSING SUBJECTS LIKE DIVERSITY,
MIGRATION AND MULTICULTURALISM WE SOON FOUND MUTUAL GROUNDS. ARJAN AND HIS TEAM HAVE
A CLEAR AFFINITY WITH THESE DISCOURSES.
WITH LOTS OF ENERGY AND RESOURCEFULNESS BUROBRAAK CREATED A STRIKING AND RELEVANT
EXHIBITION DESIGN FOR PROJECT 180 AMSTERDAMMERS.

Burobraak was commissioned to execute both 3D and graphic design of the main exhibition in the central Library as well as three smaller versions of the expo that travelled along various neighbourhood branches of OBA during 2017. By constructing walls out of move boxes we were able to create a cost efficient but impactful exhibition that was also suitable for re-use in different locations.
3D design was executed in collaboration with Geke Lensink.
